ISSA Webinar: Let's talk about OSH - Have you ever let fatigue or distractions get in the way of safety?

2 December 2025

Online

we would like to invite you to the 9th edition of the web talk "Let's talk
about OSH - Have you ever...?" organised by the ISSA Special Commission on
Prevention, with the contribution of the Prevention Sections on Electricity,
Gas and Water, Transportation and Machine and System Safety. This time, we
will dive into the topic of staying focused at work.

Across many occupations - from truck drivers navigating long-haul routes to
intensive care nurses overseeing patient monitoring systems for hours on end
- mental exhaustion, monotony, distractions, and the temptation to use
stimulants pose ever-present risks. High cognitive demands, sustained
attention, and the pressure to stay alert can significantly affect
occupational safety and health.
As the world of work becomes more complex and mentally demanding, ensuring
appropriate organisational measures, training and support systems are
crucial to protecting workers' well-being.

What role do distractions play in workplace accidents, and how can we design
systems that mitigate their impact? What simple strategies can workers use
to stay alert during monotonous or repetitive tasks? To what extent can the
use of technology contribute to preventing fatigue- or distraction-related
incidents? These are some of the questions that moderator Bernd Treichel
will be discussing with the speakers in this year's last episode.
